Born Norwich England in 1929.
Educated Kings Lynn Grammar School, Norwich City College, Wolverhampton WTTC, University of Nottingham and The Open University. Studied music privately with several teachers including Alan Bush.
Employed as an electricity power distribution engineer by Eastern Electricity after National Service in the RAF. Changed careers to become a college lecturer. Given responsibilty for the development of music courses and facilities at Wilmorton College (now Derby College).
Retired early to pursue composing, writing and journalistic activities.
Former editor of Composer News (Journal of the Composers’ Guild of GB) and also SMA Bulletin (Journal of the Schools’ Music Association of GB)
Conductor of numerous choirs and music groups of all kinds and founder of Derby Opera Workshop. Also founder chairman of the Central Composers’ Alliance and the East Midlands Region of the Schools Music Association.
A church organist, accompanist and double bass player.
Part-time WEA tutor in local studies and the arts.
Margaret Emmans A.I.S.T.D.
Born Norwich 1929.
Educated The Blyth School, Norwich and The Daniels School of Dancing.
Joined The Norwich Union from school and trained part-time as a ballroom dancing teacher.
Married Les 1956 and gave up her career to look after a growing family of four daughters, and later - one grandson and two granddaughters.
She returned to teaching ballroom dancing for the local education service and private tuition when the children had grown up.
She has sung leading soprano roles for Derby Opera Workshop and is in much demand as a soloist for numerous local charity concerts, plays the violin, cello and piano and is currently studying IT skills at local study centre.Margaret acts as publisher to her husband’s compositions
